Prime Minister irks as combined drive not being conducted

Shawdesh Desk: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed her anger over ongoing anti-corruption and anti-terrorist drives as no other agencies came along with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) to conduct combined drives, said sources at top levels of the government.

The premier, who is now in New York to attend the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly, talked with the party’s general secretary and also the Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader and some other policymakers of the government and enquired about the overall situation of the ongoing drives.

The sources also said that the PM also ordered to prolong the ongoing anti-corruption and anti-terrorist operations.
With the consent of the ruling party’s top leaders, the prime minister ordered to carry out stern action against corrupt party men.

Before leaving Dhaka for the US to attend 74th UNGA, ruling Awami League president Sheikh Hasina sat in a meeting with the party’s top-level leaders at Ganabhaban and discussed a report prepared by Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) which described serious allegations against ruling party men.

The party’s top leaders suggested the party chief take action against corrupt party men.

In that meeting, the premier decided to conduct large scale anti-corruption and anti-terrorist combined operations to brighten the government’s image.

Following this decision Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) started the anti-casino drive and arrested Organising Secretary of DSCC Jubo League unit Khaled Mahmud Bhuiyan and his cohorts.

Later, Jubo League central committee leader GK Shamim and his bodyguards were arrested with huge money.
Meanwhile, a senior AL leader, on the condition of anonymity, told media that Sheikh Hasina expressed her extreme anger over DSCC Jubo League president Ismail Chowdhury Samrat who extortionate Tk 5 crore from Anjuman Mufidul Islam.

Expressing her wonderment, the premier told this to former top JL leaders Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Mirza Azam a few days ago.

“I and Rehana use to donate our Zakat money to Anjuman Mufidul Islam. How dare he demand Tk 5 crore extortions from there? Doesn’t he die!” she said.
